Liam Neeson didn’t originally set out to be an actor, but while seeking a career as a teacher while attending Queens College Neeson joined the Belfast Lyric Players' Theater, where he found his true calling, acting. Neeson worked in the Belfast theatre until he moved to Dublin's Abbey Theater, where he cut his teeth performing the standards of classical theatre. Director John Boorman spotted Neeson there and cast Liam in his film about the Arthurian legend Excalibur.
Neeson didn’t shoot to stardom – he worked his way there. Consistent, strong performances drew critical favour to Neeson. Neeson was brilliantly cast as Oskar Schindler in Steven Spielberg’s in Schindler's List. Another important step in the climb to super stardom for Neeson.
In 1999 Neeson joined George Lucas’s space legacy as Qui-Gon Jinn, the very quiet, yet rebellious Master of Obi-Wan Kenobi, in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Neeson co-starred with Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor to defeat the Darth Maul, an extremely evil Sith with galaxy domination on his mind.
